New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra is making waves in the World Cup 2023, emerging as a standout performer with the bat. The Indian-origin Kiwi star is poised to play a pivotal role for the Black Caps in the upcoming semi-final clash against India at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
Contrary to earlier reports, it has been revealed that Rachin Ravindra’s name is not a homage to cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. In a surprising revelation, Rachin’s father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, shared that the name was a spontaneous choice suggested by his wife at the time of Rachin’s birth. Krishnamurthy clarified that there was no deliberate intention to blend the names of Rahul and Sachin; the decision was based on the name’s pleasant sound, simplicity, and ease of spelling.
“With little deliberation, my wife proposed the name when Rachin was born. It sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only later that we realized the inadvertent fusion of Rahul and Sachin’s names. The name wasn’t chosen with the aim of grooming our child into a cricketer,” explained Rachin Ravindra’s father to The Print.
Looking beyond the World Cup, Rachin Ravindra is already making headlines as he sets his sights on IPL 2024. The young Kiwi batter, who has garnered attention with his stellar performances, dropped hints about his preferred IPL team ahead of the upcoming auction. With IPL franchises eagerly eyeing talented top-order batters, Rachin is expected to attract significant attention, and teams are likely to open their coffers to secure his services.
Expressing gratitude to the Chinnaswamy Stadium and the supportive crowd after the New Zealand vs. Sri Lanka World Cup clash, Rachin Ravindra hinted at a special connection with the venue and expressed eagerness to continue playing cricket there.
