The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has recently conducted open trials aimed at nurturing local pacers and fostering their development. This initiative was reportedly suggested by veteran cricketer Harbhajan Singh, emphasizing the importance of identifying and grooming young talent.
“I don’t think many states have done this before — Conduct open trials instead of restricting it to age-group. I wanted PCA to find raw pace bowling talents,” Harbhajan told PTI.
According to sources, many of the pacers who participated in the trials were handling a leather ball for the first time, highlighting the untapped potential from rural areas. The PCA has shortlisted around 90 bowlers, with a significant number hailing from villages, indicating the need for comprehensive grooming and coaching.
This endeavor reflects the PCA’s commitment to grassroots development and creating opportunities for aspiring cricketers. The involvement of Harbhajan Singh and the selection of inexperienced yet enthusiastic bowlers underscore the significance of providing proper training, coaching, and infrastructure to maximize their potential.
By nurturing these talented individuals, primarily from rural backgrounds, the PCA aims to contribute to the growth and success of cricket in Punjab.
