The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing a legal challenge as two members of the board have lodged a complaint in the Lahore High Court against the upcoming elections for the governing committee.
The complaint by former members Shakil Shaikh and Gul Zada raises concerns about the legitimacy of the elections scheduled for June 27. This may cause a delay in the election process, with a hearing set for June 26.
The elections are crucial as the new governing committee will oversee important events like the Asia Cup 2023 and the Champions Trophy 2025, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly opposing Pakistan’s hosting rights for the latter.
The PCB will need capable negotiators to retain these rights. Despite the challenges, incoming chairman Zaka Ashraf has agreed to honor the hybrid model for the Asia Cup, with Pakistan hosting four matches and the rest held in Sri Lanka. The final schedule for the tournament is expected to be announced soon.
