New Zealand beginnings with an impressive win, marking their fabulous return to ODI cricket for the first time in a year with a thumping victory over a fragile Bangladesh.

Only Madmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim managed to score 20+ runs for Bangladesh, as the line-up was seen crumbled by challenging pitch on the University Oval surface which was exploited perfected by New Zealand after they choose to bowled first. In a sign of the hold they had with the ball, there were only eight boundaries as they bundled the opposition out with eight overs, further Boult claimed the last two wickets in three balls. Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner too claimed a tidy brace each.
This was New Zealand’s first ODI since their aborted tour of Australia during last March, and just their fourth since the 2019 World Cup final. For the first time since 2012 they handed out three new caps in the same game with allrounder Daryl Mitchell joining Conway and Young.
When Trent Boult produced a late out-swinger with the first ball of the match which surprised and beat Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, it was clear that guests were looking uncomfortable on the very first match.

“It was nice to get over the line and start the series with a win, We kept them to a decent total and it was nice to chase it down with only a couple of wickets down.” – Trent Boult
