The internet exploded on Saturday night after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli guided India to a memorable win over Australia in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The veteran duo — who stitched together their first 100-run partnership in five years — silenced critics with a match-winning stand, leaving fans emotional and nostalgic.

However, the moment of triumph quickly turned into a social media storm as BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir found themselves at the receiving end of massive online criticism.

Fans recalled Agarkar’s recent remarks at the NDTV World Summit 2025, where he revealed that he received “hate mails” following the retirement of Kohli and Rohit from Test cricket earlier this year. Both legends had stepped away from the longest format just before the England series, paving the way for Shubman Gill’s Test captaincy.

“They are part of the squad at the moment for Australia. The 2027 World Cup is a long way away. You’re not going to put them on trial because they have ODI averages of over 50,” Agarkar had said.

While Agarkar maintained that no decision has been made yet on their 2027 World Cup participation, fans believe that both Gambhir and Agarkar are “deliberately sidelining” the duo from long-term plans — despite their iconic match-winning partnership in Sydney.

As Kohli and Rohit embraced after the win, fans called it “the comeback of emotions” — a moment reminding everyone that no matter the age or speculation, the Rohit–Kohli partnership remains timeless.
