England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of the test series against Sri Lanka due to a thigh injury. The England Cricket Board announced on Sunday that Wood, who injured his right thigh during the first test at Old Trafford, will be replaced by left-arm seamer Josh Hull.
Wood, 34, sustained the injury and was unable to bowl on the final day of the match, although England still managed to secure a five-wicket victory. As a result, Leicestershire’s Hull, 20, has been called up to the England Test squad for the remaining two games against Sri Lanka. The next matches will be held at Lord’s, starting on Thursday, and The Oval.
Hull, standing six feet seven inches tall, recently played for the England Lions against Sri Lanka and will now have the opportunity to make his Test debut. With Chris Woakes expected to lead the pace attack at Lord’s, Hull will join a bowling unit that includes Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts, and Olly Stone.
The England Men’s Test Squad for the Sri Lanka series is as follows: Ollie Pope (Captain), Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Jordan Cox, Ben Duckett, Josh Hull, Dan Lawrence, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Olly Stone, and Chris Woakes.
