Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday said that there should not be “too much pressure” on the youngster Shubman Gill. Gill has been a successful opener for India in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He mentioned Gill and Rohit Sharma should “100 per cent” open the innings for India in the series against England.

“He (Gill) should be opening with Rohit Sharma, no doubt about it. But let’s not jump the gun. We just can’t put someone really high up there. Yes, he has got the talent but he needs to keep his head down because international cricket can be tough,” Gambhir told.

“Yes, you have had a honeymoon start to your international career – it can’t be better than this. Playing in Australia, winning the series with a young side – you have done really well,” Gambhir mentioned on ‘GamePlan’, a Star Sports show.

“You have batted beautifully, no doubt about it, but let’s give him time as well and let him develop on his own rather than putting too much pressure and too much expectations on him.”

Gill made his debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the second match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He scored 45 and 35 in that match. In Sydney he clubbed his maiden Test 50. He scored 91 in the second innings.
