Speculation around Shreyas Iyer’s future in red-ball cricket intensified after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the middle-order batter has opted for a six-month break from the format.
According to reports, Iyer wrote to the board citing recurring back issues as the main reason behind his decision to step away from red-ball cricket for now. However, there has been no official word on retirement from Tests. Instead, the move is seen as a temporary measure to manage his workload and fitness.
While he is skipping the longer format, Iyer continues to remain part of India’s limited-overs plans. In fact, he has been appointed captain of the India A squad for the upcoming one-day matches.
India A squad for 1st one-day match:
Shreyas Iyer (C), Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Riyan Parag, Ayush Badoni, Sameer Rizvi Shedge, Vipraj Nigam, Nishant Sindhu, Gurjapneet Singh, Yudhvir Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Abhishek Porel (WK), Priyansh Arya, Simarjeet Singh.
