After today’s IPL 2022 28th match between Punjab kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Umran Malik became the only fourth player in IPL history to bowl a 20th over maiden, allowing nil runs to the Punjab kings.
Irfan Pathan, a former Indian cricketer, was the first player to have a maiden in the 20th over while playing for Punjab kings against Mumbai Indians in 2008. In 2009, he was followed by Sri Lankan cricketer Lasith Malinga, who played for the Mumbai Indians against the Deccan Chargers. While playing for Rising Pune Supergiant against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017, Indian cricketer Jaydev Unadkat became the third player to accomplish so.
Umran talked to IPL commentators at the mid-innings break, who asked him if it was tough to bowl in the scorching sun, to which Umran replied, “Sir, I come from Jammu, where we have 46 to 47 degree temperature in summers. I have trained in Jammu and used to the heat. I actually enjoy bowling in the heat.”
