Trent Boult in powerplays, goes wicketless for 8 consecutive overs at IPL 2021

Boult had a decent outing in the first phase of this IPL, which was played in India. In the 7 matches he played in that leg, the Kiwi managed to pick up 8 wickets in them.

Trent Boult has the knack for being an integral part of any setup he’s a part of. Whether it is his national side, or his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, both the teams heavily rely on the pace bowler in the power play overs to get them some crucial wickets. However, in the second phase of VIVO IPL 2021, Boult has not had a great outing. Especially in the powerplays, with the completion of his 2 over spell against Rajasthan, he has now bowled 8 overs in the powerplays without picking a single wicket. This is a very grave sight for both his franchise Mumbai Indians as well his national side since they are to play a whole T20 World Cup in the coming months.

Boult had a decent outing in the first phase of this IPL, which was played in India. In the 7 matches he played in that leg, the Kiwi managed to pick up 8 wickets in them. It is the second phase that has seen his downfall. After the very first match of this second phase, where CSK made a great comeback towards the end of the first innings, Boult managed to pick two wickets in that match.  surprisingly both the wickets came in the powerplays. Although after that match, the stats have gone down drastically for the Kiwi Pacer, as he has only managed to pick 2 wickets since that match and none of them has come in the powerplays. As a result of which. Boult has now not had a single wicket in the powerplays in his last 5 games.

The out-of-form Boult has been one of the key reasons why Mumbai has not quite managed to cement its position in this year’s IPL. In addition to that, their batting prowess is completely vanquished. Hence, as a collective result of everything, they currently stand at the 7th position of the Points table.
