The Indian Premier League (IPL) will have access to a “impact player” rule starting in the upcoming season. Although it could appear to be a simple rule substitution, it is actually far more significant. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will implement a new rule that has never before been used in cricket but is a regular thing in the sport of football.
The IPL 2023 rule will let teams replace one of their regular players with an impact player. Now, in cricket, that has long been a standard procedure. The fielding team may substitute at any moment with the “12th man,” a move that typically occurs when a player is hurt. The 12th man can field and take catches. But, the player is not allowed to bat or bowl. However, the new rule states that the “impact player “be able to perform both. Each team must designate four “impact players” before the toss “along with the starting XI. During the game, one of those might be utilized. A player may replace any starter before the completion of the 14th over of either inning and still bat and bowl.
The Impact Player concept, which will be implemented in the upcoming Indian Premier League, may only be applicable to Indian players. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet released the rules for how it will operate, but BCCI managers who are in contact with the franchises have said that only Indian players will be allowed to enter the game as the impact substitute.
