Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was upset with his team’s batsmen after they failed to chase down the 169-run total set by Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium. Speaking in the post match conversation, Rohit said, “I thought we bowled pretty okay. It was a good pitch to bat on. I thought that score should have been chased down, but we didn’t bat well enough”.
Being asked what should have batters done better, Rohit stated, “ When you have a target like that, it is important to string partnerships. But there was some irresponsible shots in the middle, including mine. We couldn’t get the momentum towards us”.
“We haven’t batted well enough in this tournament. Whoever plays in the middle needs to take that responsibility and go on to play long innings. Some of the opposition players have done that and that is what hurting us,” he further added.
Mumbai got off to a good start, with Rohit Sharma hitting effectively but Ishan Kishan struggling to get started. It worked out well for them until the Powerplay. They lost four wickets in the next six overs, totally wrecking their momentum. Tilak Varma played a key knock once more, giving them a glimmer of hope, but he also departed.
