Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings has had an unexpected start as an opener in the IPL 2022 season, as he was dismissed with no runs in the first four balls in the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders, and with one run in the first four balls in both matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings. He was knocked for 16 runs in 13 balls in today’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, despite higher expectations.
Gaikwad was retained by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2022 edition of the tournament for INR 6 crore after 16 matches, 635 runs, and a best score of 101* in the 2021 edition of the league.
The Chennai Super Kings were able to get his skills at his basic price of INR 20 lacs at the IPL 2019 Player Auction. He’s been their most reliable opening batsman.
