With KL Rahul going unretained after IPL 2021, PBKS would look for a new player to captain the side. Here are a few of the players who are best suited to captain the side:
1) Mayank Agarwal:
Mayank Agarwal is among the two players retained by PBKS post-IPL 2021. Mayank has been a crucial part of the team for the last few years. He has provided the team with a good start on several occasions and has also won numerous matches for the team. Mayank also captained PBKS last year in the absence of KL Rahul. Aakash Chopra speaking on his youtube channel, stated that ‘Punjab Kings should not look for a captain in IPL Auction 2022. Instead, they should appoint Mayank Agarwal as captain right away and build the team with him. With Mayank’s bonding with PBKS from the last few years, him being the most experienced PBKS player in the squad, Mayank Agarwal seems to be a suitable fit for the captain of Punjab Kings this season.
2) Shikhar Dhawan:
Shikhar Dhawan was the first player to be sold in IPL Auction 2022. PBKS roped in Dhawan for INR 8.25 Crore on Day 1. Dhawan was the captain of India Vs. the series win against Sri Lanka in 2021. Dhawan has also captained SRH on multiple occasions in the past. With Dhawan’s past successful experiences as a captain and his ability to keep the team together and create a positive and healthy team environment, Dhawan is another excellent option for being the captain of PBKS.
