Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by 55 runs in Mega encounter at Barbourne Stadium, Mumbai. This is the third consecutive defeat of Chennai Super Kings this season. For the first time in the history of IPL, Chennai Super Kings have lost the first three matches. Due to Liam Livingstone’s all-around performance, Punjab registered their second win of the season. The pitch at Barbourne stadium is batting friendly but due to poor batting, Chennai’s troubles are increasing.
Chennai Super Kings had won the toss and decided to bowl first in this match, they had invited Punjab to bat. Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, and Jitesh Sharma batted brilliantly for Punjab Kings and gave Punjab a respectable total of 180 runs. In the last 5 overs, Punjab’s batsmen could not do much, but with the help of 60 runs from Liam Livingstone, Punjab managed to reach the score of 180.
For Chennai Super Kings, Shivam Dubey definitely showed a fight for some time and played an innings of 57 runs in 30 balls at a superb strike-rate of 190. Apart from Shivam Dubey, none of the Chennai Super Kings batsmen could stand in front of the Punjab bowlers. After three consecutive defeats, the journey ahead is going to be difficult for Chennai Super Kings and if they want to make a comeback now, then the level of their game will have to be improved in all three departments.
Along with Punjab’s batting, the bowlers also performed brilliantly and none of the bowlers gave chances to the Chennai batsmen to score more runs. Vaibhav Arora, playing his first IPL match for Punjab, took two wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs. Apart from Vaibhav Arora, Liam Livingstone and Rahul Chahar also bowled brilliantly.
