Suryakumar Yadav is an Indian cricketer who hails from Mumbai. He currently represents Mumbai Indians in the IPL and has played for Kolkata Knight Riders as well. He grew up in a middle-class family and started playing cricket in the streets of Maharashtra. He trained under Dilip Vengsarkar in the Elf Vengsarkar Academy. Yadav has represented Maharashtra in all age group tournaments.
The young batsman from Maharashtra bagged his first IPL contract in 2012 with his home team Mumbai Indians. The then MI side had cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar and young promising talents like Rohit Sharma at the time due to which the youngster did not get a game to play. He was later picked by KKR in 2014 and made headlines in 2015 when he played a match-winning knock of 46 runs in just 20 balls to help KKR win against Mumbai Indians. He was also given the designation of the vice-captain for his performance.
In 2018, Mumbai Indians picked him again but this time at a cheque of Rs 3.2 crores which is huge for an uncapped player. He has scored 1608 runs in 87 matches with the best score of 72 against Rajasthan Royals. Suryakumar has been a consistent performer for MI over the past couple of seasons and they will expect him to do the same this year. The defending champions will play against RCB and Suryakumar’s batting will be crucial to the team’s performance.
