Sam Curran is a 22-year-old batsman from England and is currently representing CSK in the IPL. The opening match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings was probably one of the most awaited matches of 2020 and it started off with a bang. While all the attention was on players like MS Dhoni who was playing after more than a year and Rohit Sharma who is one of the finest batsmen in world cricket, Sam Curra took the limelight.
He impressed everyone with his bowling skills in the first innings and scored a striking 18 runs in just 6 balls to help CSK end on the winning side. He was promoted up the batting order and came to bat before the skipper himself who everybody was keen on watching. Curran was a part of the Kings XI Punjab in the last season and proved to be quiet impressive. While nobody expected him to perform so well, he changed a lot of opinions after that match.
The CSK squad was playing without their star players like Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh and Bravo but it didn’t stop the side from winning as other players stepped up for the side and Curran was one of the young boys to do so. Head Coach Stephen Fleming was all praises for the young batsman and believes that he would be a good addition to the side. “The things that impressed us with Sam is his attitude first and foremost, almost the harder it gets the better he gets, his all-round skill component and the fact that the captain was able to trust him straightaway to go in at a crucial time and hit the way he did.” he added ahead of the Rajasthan Royals match.
