Former IPL auctioneer, Richard Madley reflects on an interesting incident relating to the IPL auction that happened back in 2014. He narrates an incident where a bid over former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh made RCB owner, Vijay Mallya frustrated.

During the 2014 auction, RCB (Royal Challengers Banglore) was sure to have bagged the services of Yuvraj at a colossal price of Rs 10 cr. However, it had come to the fore that KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) intervened while Madley was just about to bring his hammer down. As a result, the auctioneer had to give into KKR’s deal which was more than RCB’s.

All these incidents angered Mallya and his team also went on to register the complaint against it. Madley spoke about these incidents while speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel. Madley said that this confusion led to bidding once again where RCB offered Rs 4 cr extra to bag Yuvraj in.

Madley said that he looked around the room and asked if everyone was all done now when the bid was Rs 10 cr. He looked all the way and there was no one bidding.

Madley also said that when the bidding reopened, Mallya shouted ‘player is mine’ and in due process, Yuvraj was happier to have gotten extra bucks.

Ashwin asked Madley whether Yuvraj offered him something for opening bid again. In response to this, Madley said “not even a cup of tea.”
