The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delivered a blow to Rajasthan Royals‘ IPL 2024 campaign, confirming the unavailability of fast bowler Prasidh Krishna due to injury. Despite being retained by the Royals, Krishna’s absence from the last edition of the IPL and his recent surgery for a quadriceps injury have sidelined him for the upcoming season.
Krishna underwent surgery on February 23, 2024, to address his left proximal quadriceps tendon issue and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. Although he is set to begin rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, he will miss the entirety of IPL 2024.
The 26-year-old fast bowler faced a similar setback last year, missing the IPL due to a stress fracture. Despite his return to international cricket, his recent injury sustained while playing for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy has halted his IPL aspirations once again. With two Tests, 17 ODIs, and five T20Is under his belt for India, Krishna’s focus now shifts towards regaining full fitness.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami joins the list of absentees for IPL 2024, having undergone surgery for a heel injury late last month. The BCCI has confirmed his unavailability for the upcoming season, further impacting the fast bowling options for IPL franchises.
As Rajasthan Royals strategize for IPL 2024, the absence of key players like Prasidh Krishna poses a significant challenge. With the mega auction on the horizon, the Royals may need to reassess their squad composition, considering the uncertainty surrounding Krishna’s availability.
