Nicholas Pooran is a West Indian cricketer who is currently representing Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. He is an explosive batsman and on good days can clear the boundary with a lot of ease. Apart from being a batsman par excellence, he is very agile on the field as well. Over the years of his cricketing career, he has been very quick on the field.
Five years ago he met with a car accident and injured both his legs which made him bedridden for six months. He was not allowed to even walk as he had surgeries on both his legs. With no hope of ever walking again, cricket was out of the picture. With a lot of time spent on the wheelchair and rehab, he slowly returned back to cricket.
Returning back to the field was one of the best things he did as we were able to see one of the best save in the 2020 IPL this year. In a match against Rajasthan Royals, KXIP was defending a score of 224. In the eighth over Sanju Samson hit the ball with all his power and while the ball almost cleared the ropes, it did not. Pooran stretched and caught the ball and threw it back in within seconds. His act became the talk of the town with legends like Sachin Tendulkar calling it the best save ever.
This is the best save I have seen in my life. Simply incredible!! 👍#IPL2020 #RRvKXIP pic.twitter.com/2r7cNZmUaw

“I kept thinking of catching the ball regardless of where it was. I had a fair idea of where the boundary rope was and I even had the ball in my hands. But then I realised ‘Hang on, I am too far away.’ So, I threw the ball back in,” Pooran said from Dubai. Fielding coach Jonty Rhodes who himself is one of the best fielders in the game of cricket gave him a standing ovation and was very proud of his effort to save the team a few runs.
