In the match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, CSK captain MS Dhoni had a clear plan to use his spinners continuously, despite the onslaught from RCB’s Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis. Dhoni’s strategy proved successful as soon after Maxwell’s dismissal off Maheesh Theekshana’s bowling, Moeen Ali struck and once again it was Dhoni taking the catch.
Dhoni’s decision to stick with spinners was a bold move, considering that Maxwell and du Plessis were hitting long sixes. However, he was confident that his spinners would be able to control the game and take wickets at crucial moments. And that’s exactly what happened.
Theekshana got rid of Maxwell, who was looking dangerous with his knock of 76 runs off 36 balls, including 8 sixes. Maxwell went for another slog-sweep but ended up slicing it high up in the air. Dhoni, who was stationed at long-off, settled under the ball and took a safe catch.
Later, Moeen Ali got rid of RCB’s captain Faf du Plessis, who was in good form with a half-century. But he too went for a slog-sweep and got a top edge that went miles up in the air. Dhoni, who was at square leg, moved towards the ball, settled under it and took the catch comfortably.
