In a surprising turn of events, Indian batter Mayank Agarwal went unsold at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction held in Jeddah. The experienced top-order batter, who previously expressed his desire to return to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), found no takers despite his proven credentials in the Indian Premier League.
Mayank’s IPL journey
Mayank Agarwal began his IPL career with RCB in 2011 and has since represented several franchises, including Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Known for his stylish stroke play and ability to anchor innings, Mayank has been a dependable performer over the years, with over 2,000 runs in IPL history.
A challenging phase
After captaining Punjab Kings in IPL 2022, Mayank joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2024. However, a lackluster season saw him score just 270 runs in 10 matches, leading to his release ahead of the auction. Despite this, Mayank remained optimistic and publicly expressed his willingness to return to RCB, the team where his IPL journey began.
