The former cricketer, known for representing East Delhi, took to Twitter to convey his decision to his followers and supporters. He cited his desire to prioritize his cricket commitments, highlighting the sport he passionately pursued before entering politics.
“I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind,” Mr. Gambhir tweeted.

Gambhir, renowned for his leadership in cricket, notably captained the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise from 2011 to 2017, steering them to victory in the IPL titles of 2012 and 2014. His return to KKR was confirmed on November 21, 2023, with the team announcing his role as a mentor alongside head coach Chandrakant Pandit. Gambhir previously served as the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants in their inaugural two seasons in the IPL in 2022 and 2023.
