Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 20 against Mumbai Indians on April 13.

Tim David penalised for repeated breach

David was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.4, which relates to disobeying an umpire’s instructions. The first instance came in the 18th over of RCB’s innings when the umpires decided to change the ball. David insisted on checking it and did not hand it back despite repeated requests.

A similar incident followed in the final over, where he again failed to return the ball when asked. The repeated nature of the act led to the charge. David admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee.

Hardik fined for slow over-rate

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was also penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate. As it was the team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22, he has been fined INR 12 lakh.

Slow over-rates remain a recurring issue despite strict monitoring. Will teams start adjusting better, or will fines continue to follow?

RCB hold nerve in high-scoring contest

The sanctions came in a match dominated by runs. RCB posted 240 for 4, continuing their strong batting form this season.

Mumbai Indians responded with a late surge, led by Rutherford, but fell short by 18 runs. Despite the loss, MI showed intent in the chase, though the gap proved too much in the end.

For RCB, it was another win. For MI, both the result and the penalties add to the setbacks.
