The Board of Control for Cricket in India has revised the schedule for the Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings fixtures in IPL 2026, citing local elections in Gujarat as the reason for the change.

Ahmedabad election forces venue swap

The afternoon game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, originally set to be played in Ahmedabad on April 26, will now take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match will begin at 3:30 PM IST as scheduled.

In turn, the reverse fixture on May 21 has been moved to Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This game will be played as an evening match, starting at 7:30 PM IST.

The changes come due to municipal corporation elections across Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat on April 26, making it difficult to host a major sporting event on the same day.

Logistical call, but impact on teams?

While venue swaps are not uncommon in the IPL, such changes can affect team planning, especially in terms of travel and pitch conditions. Chennai and Ahmedabad offer very different surfaces and conditions, which could influence team combinations.

Will this late adjustment impact preparation, or are teams equipped to adapt quickly?

Schedule flexibility remains key

The IPL has often had to adjust its schedule due to external factors, including elections. The BCCI’s decision ensures that the matches go ahead without disruption, even if it means altering venues.

For Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, the focus now shifts to adapting to the revised schedule. In a long tournament, how much do such changes really matter?
