Umpire call sparks anger as Stubbs falls, CSK close in on win

Chennai Super Kings moved to the brink of victory after a key moment in the 19th over turned into a flashpoint. Jamie Overton removed Tristan Stubbs for 60, but the dismissal was followed by confusion and visible frustration from the Delhi Capitals dugout.

Stubbs tried to go big, clearing his front leg and swinging hard at a full delivery outside off. He did not get the timing right and sliced it towards mid-off, where Noor Ahmad completed the catch after a small bobble. CSK immediately went up in celebration, sensing the breakthrough at a crucial stage of the chase.

However, the moment was followed by controversy. The umpire had earlier called it a wide, but Overton convinced his captain to review it straight away. Replays confirmed the ball had not crossed the line, and the decision was overturned.

What followed drew attention. Hemang Badani, Nitish Rana and Karun Nair were seen engaging with the fourth umpire, visibly unhappy with what they believed was a misunderstanding around equipment and timing between overs. Reports suggested Stubbs had asked for a glove change before the ball, but the request was not fully processed in time.

As Stubbs walked back, frustration boiled over. He slammed his helmet in the dressing room and had a brief exchange with officials on his way out. The wicket itself was already a big blow, but the surrounding reaction made it the talking point of the evening.

At that stage, Delhi needed 29 runs from 9 balls, but the match had effectively slipped away. CSK remained in control, with the final overs turning into formalities rather than a contest.
