Chennai Super Kings finally got their first win of the season, beating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs at Chepauk. After six straight home defeats, CSK ended the run in front of a full house, moving off the bottom with their first points of IPL 2026.

CSK break home drought with 23-run win over DC

Sanju Samson led the way with a strong hundred, finishing unbeaten on 115 off 56 balls. He batted through the innings with control, picked gaps early, and then shifted gears in the middle overs. His knock included 15 fours and 4 sixes and gave CSK the base for a big total of 212 for 2. Ayush Mhatre also played a key hand with 59 before retiring out after setting a steady partnership at the top.

Delhi Capitals had no answers once the chase began to slip. They started well but kept losing wickets at key moments and were bowled out for 189 in 20 overs.

Jamie Overton leads bowling effort as DC collapse

Jamie Overton was the main reason for that collapse. He finished with four wickets, breaking the game open in the middle overs. His spell included the key dismissal of Tristan Stubbs, who had looked set with a quick fifty. Overton mixed pace and lengths well and kept hitting the hard length that the pitch demanded.

Anshul Kamboj also played a key role at the death, picking up three wickets including the final one of Lungi Ngidi to wrap up the win. The seam attack worked as a unit, backed by tight fielding and better execution at the back end.

CSK’s win also carried statistical weight, as they have now beaten DC eight times in their last nine meetings at Chepauk. The only loss in that run came in 2025.

For CSK, it was a relief more than anything. The batting clicked through Samson, the bowling backed it up, and the home crowd finally had something to celebrate after a long wait.
