A major trade headline may be brewing ahead of the IPL 2026 mega auction. According to reports, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sanju Samson are set to part ways, and talks are underway for a potential move to Delhi Capitals (DC) — the franchise Samson represented in 2016 and 2017.

If finalised, this could mark a high-profile homecoming to DC for the wicketkeeper-batter, who has been the face of the Royals since 2018.

RR–Samson relationship reportedly cools off

In recent months, the 2024 IPL finalists and Samson have reportedly stopped “seeing eye-to-eye”, leading to speculation that RR will not retain him for IPL 2026. While the split appears mutual, it opens the door for a blockbuster trade.

DC emerges as frontrunner; CSK interest fizzles

The Times of India reports that RR initially sounded out Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but discussions stalled when CSK declined to trade Ravindra Jadeja — RR’s preferred exchange option.
RR then approached DC, sparking active negotiations.

What could the trade look like?

DC is unwilling to part with core players like KL Rahul, but has reportedly offered Tristan Stubbs — valued at ₹10 crore in the last auction. Royals, however, may demand more:

  • Samson’s value: ₹18 crore
  • Stubbs’ value: ₹10 crore

To bridge the gap, RR has asked for an uncapped Indian player along with Stubbs. If DC does not agree, they could compensate the remaining amount in cash, increasing RR’s auction purse.

Kolkata Knight Riders 2012
Rajasthan Royals 2013–15, 2018–2024
Delhi Daredevils/Capitals 2016–17

If the move materialises, IPL 2026 could reunite Samson with his former franchise and give DC a proven leader and explosive top-order batter.

Trade discussions are ongoing — and fans may not have to wait long for one of the most intriguing moves of the upcoming season.
