Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan voiced his concerns over MS Dhoni batting at number 9 for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Pathan took to X (formerly Twitter) during the second innings and wrote, “I will never be in favour of Dhoni batting at number 9. Not ideal for team.”

The comment came at a time when CSK were reeling at 81/6 in 13 overs, needing 116 runs off 42 balls to chase down RCB’s total of 196/7 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Dhoni, known for his finishing prowess and tactical acumen, had not yet come out to bat despite the mounting pressure and loss of key wickets, including Shivam Dube, who was dismissed for 19.

Currently, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are at the crease, trying to salvage the chase. However, Pathan’s post sparked debate among fans and pundits alike about CSK’s batting order strategy.

The decision to hold Dhoni back has raised eyebrows, especially considering the required run rate has crossed 16 per over. With only a handful of overs remaining, fans are eager to see if the CSK skipper will come in time to make an impact—or whether it’s already too late.

Stay tuned for updates from the match.
