Virat Kohli has been playing T20 cricket since its inception in 2008. The batter has been one of the most dependable players for Team India and has successfully taken over the baton from the ‘master blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar.
As Kohli prepares to play yet another IPL season, he stands on the cusp of a unique record. Kohli is just 6 runs away from becoming the first Indian batter to reach the milestone of 12,000 runs in T20 cricket.
Virat Kohli made his T20I debut in 2010 and is India’s highest run-scorer with 4,037 runs. In the IPL, the batter has amassed a staggering 7,263 runs in 237 matches, including seven centuries and 50 half-centuries.
When Kohli takes the field in the IPL opener between CSK and RCB, he will have the opportunity to become the first batter in Indian cricket’s history to score 12,000 runs in T20 cricket. At the moment, he has 11,994 runs in 376 matches.
Only three players worldwide have achieved this feat before –
Chris Gayle (14,562)
Shoaib Malik (12,993)
Kieron Pollard (12,390)
