It has been a mixed season of the Indian Premier League for 2024, and as the matches are going on, some big names could not perform well. Though the teams have tried all sorts of combinations to win a game, the following five players have not found any position for them during the season.
Kyle Mayers (Lucknow Super Giants): The West Indian opener, who amassed 379 runs for LSG in the previous season, has not been given a single opportunity to showcase his skills this year. With the formidable opening pair of Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul leading the charge, Mayers has been warming the bench.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Kolkata Knight Riders): The Afghan wicket-keeper batter, who has scored 534 runs in 20 T20Is with a strike rate of nearly 138, was a regular feature for KKR in IPL 2023, amassing 227 runs. However, this season has been a different story, with Gurbaz yet to feature in a single game.
Glenn Phillips (Sunrisers Hyderabad): Another New Zealand player, Phillips, had a forgettable IPL 2023, scoring only 39 runs in five matches. With SRH boasting a strong batting lineup this year, the talented batter has been left on the sidelines.
Navdeep Saini (Rajasthan Royals): The Indian pacer, who has represented the national team in 11 T20Is, has been a surprise omission from RR’s Playing XI. Despite RR’s investment of 2.6 crore, Saini has played only two matches in the last two seasons, including IPL 2024.
Mitchell Santner (Chennai Super Kings): The Kiwi all-rounder, known for his exploits in T20 cricket with 193 wickets across various leagues, has been a disappointment in the IPL. Despite CSK’s acquisition in 2022, Santner’s lackluster performance has kept him out of the Playing XI this season.
