Chennai Super Kings’ young talent Sameer Rizvi credited his quick and impactful performance in his debut IPL match to none other than the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Rizvi, who played his first IPL match against Gujarat Giants, showcased his potential with a cameo of 14 runs off just six balls, including two towering sixes off Rashid Khan.
Sharing insights from his interaction with Dhoni, Rizvi revealed, “Bhaiya (Dhoni) told me to stick to my natural game and not to feel any pressure.
He emphasized that cricket is all about mindset and advised me to play according to the situation.” His sentiments were captured in a video on IPLT20.com, where he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from Dhoni and the CSK coaching staff.
The 20-year-old batter, picked up by CSK for a hefty sum of Rs 8.4 crore during the auction, cherished the dream of meeting Dhoni, which became a reality when he joined the franchise.
Regarding his jersey number, Rizvi shared, “Since Mahi bhai wears number seven, I couldn’t choose it. So, I opted for number one.” He also spoke glowingly about the supportive atmosphere within the CSK dressing room, where teammates encourage each other wholeheartedly.
Rizvi’s positive outlook and promising performance underscore the nurturing environment fostered by CSK, where young talents like him thrive under the guidance of cricketing legends like MS Dhoni.
