The IPL 2023 auction is done and it was one of the best events to watch. The auction created history as there were so many shocking names with some shocking amount. Sam Curran became the highest paid player in the history of IPL after PBKS bought him for INR 18.50 Crore. Former CSK man will now be playing in the red jersey again.
CSK lost one of their best pacers (Sam Curran) and also they lost one of the best all-rounders named Dwayne Bravo as he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket ahead of the auctions. With Dwayne Bravo gone, who can be CSK’s leading death bowler? This question will also be in skipper MS Dhoni’s mind.
CSK’s death bowling options after IPL auction 2023:
1. Dwayne Pretorius: The South African pacer was retained by the team as MS Dhoni feels he can be crucial for CSK next season. Dwayne Pretorius has played some games for CSK in IPL 2022 and did well with the ball. He can be one of the options in the death as he also replaced Dwayne Bravo in the starting XI last season.
2. Ben Stokes: Ben Stokes was purchased by the franchise in this year’s auction for a massive price of INR 16.25 Crore. Dhoni can also look Stokes as a death bowling option but it seems a bit unlikely as the pacer don’t have much experience bowling in death especially in T20 cricket.
3. Kyle Jamieson: The New Zealand’s pacer can be one of the options in death for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as Jamieson got a good pace and he can bowl slow deliveries as well.
4. Mukesh Choudhary: The pacer was one of the regular starters for CSK last season and his pace and bounce can really make him as an option in death for Dhoni. But it still seems Dhoni will prefer using Mukesh in the powerplay overs rather than death overs as he has a good record in taking wickets with the new ball.
