After a disappointing beginning to the IPL 2023, the Delhi Capitals have managed to bounce back by securing two back-to-back victories following a streak of five consecutive losses. Axar Patel has played a pivotal role in both of Delhi’s recent wins, emerging as a standout performer.
Axar Patel’s Perfomance –
In both of Delhi Capitals’ recent victories, Axar Patel has played a significant role. Against Kolkata Knight Riders, he remained calm under pressure and contributed with two crucial wickets before playing a patient innings of 19 not out to secure the win. In the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Axar produced an outstanding all-round performance, scoring 34 runs and forming a crucial partnership of 69 with Manish Pandey to lift Delhi from a difficult position of 62-5 to a total of 144-9. Axar then showcased his left-arm spin, taking two wickets for just 21 runs.
Former Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has commended Axar Patel for his consistent performances in the IPL and suggested that the star all-rounder could be appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals in the future. Gavaskar believes that this move would not only benefit the Delhi Capitals but also prove advantageous for the Indian cricket team.
“I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He’s in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in the long run,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports Cricket Live.
