Lucknow Super Giants’ captain K L Rahul is the only Indian batsman to score 500+ runs for the fifth consecutive season, only David Warner has achieved the feat with 6 seasons.
Rahul, who had just struck a century against MI at Brabourne Stadium a few days before, slammed an unbroken 103 off 62 balls with 12 fours and four maximums. With his brilliant knock, became the first batter to score three centuries against the same opposition in the IPL.
It all began in 2016, when KL Rahul joined Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab). He batted 659 times in his rookie year, with an average of 54.91 and a strike rate of 54.19. Despite PBKS failing to win a championship, he has maintained a 50+ average ever then.
In IPL 2019, he scored 593 runs in 14 matches at an average of 53.90, and in IPL 2020, he scored 670 runs at an average of 55.83.
Only Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have scored 500 or more runs in successive seasons for India. However, they only do it once the next year. David Warner, on the other hand, retains the record for scoring 500 runs in six straight seasons. Due to a ball-tampering suspension, he just missed the IPL 2018.
