Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has become one of the best spinners in modern-day cricket, and particularly so in the T20 format. He has been playing in multiple T20 leagues around the world, including the Big Bash and the Caribbean Premier League, and performing extremely well all over.
While playing for Barbados Tridents in the CPL 2020 last month, he also became the fastest bowler to 300 wickets in T20 cricket. He achieved this feat in 213 matches.
He has been one of the key bowlers for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last three seasons and has scalped 55 wickets.
Talking ahead of SRH’s first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday, Rashid Khan spoke about the difficulty of bowling to Virat Kohli.
“IPL is a distinct league different requirement. Playing against big names like Virat Kohli and others is a big challenge. No doubt he [Kohli] is one of the best players in the world and you have to have the best ball for him, there is no excuse to ball badly.”
“He’ll be back in the field after a long break, let’s see what his regression is, how he performs,” Rashid said, during a media interaction ahead of their match against RCB.
“My center is always bowling economically well for the team. When I bowl economically it supports the bowlers on the other end to take wickets,” he stated
“I concentrate on bowling dot balls and putting stress on the batsman so he can take risks. I focus on the team’s requirement, what helps the team is important to me,” Rashid said.
Rashid Khan also announced he has about five variations that he is used to tricking the batsmen. “I have 4-5 grips. I bowl them according to the wicket based on the result of the wicket. Those five grips help me to bowl differently as each one pitch differently.”
“Spinners will be key in this competition as it goes on, wickets might get more suitable for the spinners as the tournament progresses, the grounds are bigger as well and that helps as a spinner. Sharjah is a small ground but the wicket would be good for the spinners.”
