Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill achieved a major milestone in Match 9 of IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians (MI), becoming the first batter to complete 1000 IPL runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gill, who began the match with 953 runs at the venue, crossed the mark with a composed knock, which included 33 runs against Punjab Kings and 14 in the ongoing game vs MI*.
Shubman’s IPL journey began with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, and after four solid seasons, he moved to GT in 2022. He was instrumental in GT’s title-winning run that year. In IPL 2023, Gill scored three centuries, including a personal best of 129, and added another hundred in the previous season. So far, the 25-year-old has smashed 20 fifties, four centuries, 313 boundaries, and 98 sixes in his IPL career.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first, citing pitch uncertainty and the dew factor. The big news from the MI camp is the return of captain Hardik Pandya, who missed the opener due to a ban. He replaces young spinner Vignesh Puthur, who had impressed with a three-wicket haul in the previous game. Puthur remains available as an Impact Substitute.
