Some people live to make records, while records chase some people, and Mahindra Singh Dhoni definitely belongs to the second category. On Saturday, in the match against Rajasthan Royals, Dhoni became the first captain in IPL’s history to lead a team in 200 matches. This is Dhoni’s 216 appearance as a player in IPL. He has captained Chennai Super King in 186 matches, while in 14 matches he captained Rising Pune Super Giant during the 2016 season, when CSK, his primary team was banned from participation due to charges of corruption being leveled against them.
M.S. Dhoni has been a very prudent and prolific leader. In April he became the first captain in the world to have led a T20 franchise in 200 matches. Under his captaincy, CSK has managed to win 3 out of their 6 finals. He has also managed to reach the final with Rising Pune Super Giant, although in that season he was playing under the captainship of Steven Smith. Apart from that, he is the only captain in the world who has managed to win 2 Champions League trophies in the 2010/11 and 2013/14 seasons.
After Dhoni, it is his International Deputy, Virat Kohli who has the second-best tally as a captain of an IPL team. He has led RCB in 136 matches. Adam Gilchrist is the only foreign captain on this list, with 74 matches as a captain.
