In a dramatic twist late in the chase, Chennai Super Kings retired out opener Devon Conway as they hunt down Punjab Kings’ massive total of 219/6 in Match 22 of IPL 2025. At the end of 18 overs, CSK are 177/4 and still require 43 runs off just 12 balls.
Conway, who was struggling to get going, was called off the field and replaced by Ravindra Jadeja, marking a rare tactical substitution in the IPL. Conway’s slow innings put pressure on the required run rate, and CSK management finally made the call after his single off 17.4.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has ignited hopes with two back-to-back sixes off Lockie Ferguson in the 18th over, currently batting on 15 off just 7 deliveries at a strike rate of 214.29. With Arshdeep Singh and Ferguson finishing their spells, the final overs are expected to be intense.
Punjab Kings earlier posted a mammoth 219/6, with a strong finish and disciplined middle overs. CSK now face a steep task, needing a miracle from Dhoni and Jadeja to pull off the win in the final two overs.
