The IPL 2020 that is being held in UAE from 19th September hit a roadblock when 13 members of the CSK squad including 2 players tested positive for COVID-19. A member of the BCCI’s medical commission who is in UAE for IPL 2020 has also tested positive for coronavirus. This makes the total number of confirmed cases in the IPL to reach 14.
The member who tested positive was asymptotic and has been put in quarantine away from the bio-bubble. The sudden spurge in the number of cases has made a lot of international players question their decision of joining their squads in UAE.
Australian cricketer Josh Hazelwood who is set to join CSK for IPL 2020 is now a bit hesitant. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has also been worried about the IPL with COVID-19 inside the secure bubble. “There’s a little bit of apprehension, certainly as you get nearer to the time … you start thinking you do have to be extremely vigilant and disciplined.” He added.
Williamson is also happy with the decision of keeping all the teams in separate hotels which reduces risk.
The management along with BCCI has also warned players to be respectful of the biosecure environment and warned them against breaching the protocol. BCCI has been working hard to make sure the players are secure and the tournament goes on without a lot of hassles.
