IPL franchise of Lucknow unveil its name and identify

Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow based IPL franchise announced the name based on the names provided by lakhs of fans.

Two new franchises were bought to add to the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year in October one based in Lucknow and the other is in Ahmedabad.

Lucknow’s IPL team (now known as the Lucknow Super Giants) is set to be captained by KL Rahul, which was declared by the owner of the team, Sanjiv Goenka. The player was bought to the team for 17 crore INR that recorded the joint highest fees paid in the Indian league to any player.

Sanjiv Goenka announced the name based on the names provided by lakhs of fans. The owner in a video while revealing the name said, “Thank you so much for your overwhelming response to the ‘naam banaao naam kamao contest….. And the name we have chosen on your recommendations is Lucknow Super Giants.”

The team was welcomed by other franchises. “Super Giants Super Welcome,” tweeted Mumbai based IPL team Mumbai Indians.

The franchise was owned by the Goenka-owned RPSG group for 7090 crores last year. Along with KL Rahul, the franchise also signed Marcus Stoinis (Australian all-rounder) and spinner Ravi Bishnoi. The league is scheduled to start from the last week of March and will run until May.
