Due to Sri Lanka’s team analyst, GT Niroshan and batting coach Grant Flower tested positive for COVID-19, the upcoming ODI series between India and Sri Lanka is set to be rescheduled. The recent cases in the Sri Lankan camp led the tour likely to start from July 17 or 18. The Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian team was ready to show their best on Tuesday but unfortunately will have to wait for few more days.

Sources have informed ANI, “The series will be rescheduled. The exact dates will be formalised tomorrow as discussions are on between SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) and BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), but it is expected to start around the 17th or 18th of July. It is a precautionary measure.”

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, both Niroshan and Flower have been infected with the Delta variant, which is more contagious. The Sri Lankan squad will now be forced to spend at least two more days in isolation after they were to come out of quarantine on Friday.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have to roll out the new dates for the matches to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday. Before the COVID-19 crisis, both teams were scheduled to play from July 13 three-match ODI series and as many T20Is.
