Early drama unfolded at the MCG during the second T20I as Shubman Gill was struck on the helmet by a sharp, rising delivery from Josh Hazlewood. The ball climbed steeply as Gill attempted a pull, missing the shot and taking a direct blow to the helmet grill.
Hazlewood immediately walked up to check on Gill’s condition, and India’s physio rushed in for a concussion assessment. After a series of on-field checks, Gill was cleared to continue, easing concerns in the Indian camp.
The right-hander looked shaken but composed as play resumed. Australia’s quicks have extracted bounce early at the MCG, testing India’s top order with steep movement off the deck.
India, batting first after losing the toss again, will hope Gill settles quickly after the scare. With Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the lineup, the visitors need a solid start to counter Australia’s pace threat under lights.
