Suryakumar Yadav | India captain: (on Hazlewood) Absolutely. The way he bowled in the powerplay - if you’re four down early, it’s very difficult to recover. Credit goes to him, he bowled really well. (on Abhishek) He’s been doing this for a while now. He knows his game, knows his identity, and it’s good he’s not changing it - that’s what’s brought him success. Hopefully, he sticks with it and plays many more knocks like this for us. (Quick turnaround for the next game) We need to do the same thing what we did in the first game - bat really well if we’re batting first, put nice runs on the board and then come out and defend.

Mitch Marsh | Australia captain: Exactly! We got a good toss to win - there was a bit of moisture underneath. Hoff (Hazlewood) is a great bowler, and when there’s a little in the surface, he makes it count. I thought we bowled collectively really well, kept attacking for wickets, and set the game up nicely. Since the last World Cup we've really tried to build out a squad of, you know, hopefully 25 players that can, if needed, if required, can come to the World Cup and really feel a part of this team and feel connected to everyone. So, you know, we've got some great young talent coming through Australian cricket and the guys were brilliant tonight. (fourth Aussie to go past 2000 T20I runs) I was a bit nervous at 10 off 10, but got going again. Head at the other end takes the pressure off, as he always does. So, yeah - nice to get the chase done. I have so much respect for the Indian cricket team and it's going to be a great three games.

The move didn’t quite pay off early — Gill copped a nasty blow to the helmet from Hazlewood but continues after concussion checks. Five dots in the first over as Australia start strong.

Chopra also pointed to the selection dilemma around Yashasvi Jaiswal:

“Yashasvi Jaiswal is around the corner — he will feel he should play as well. Making him sit also brings pressure.”

  24. 1:15 PM (IST) 31 Oct 2025

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra weighed in on India’s selection dynamics, noting pressure on top-order batter Shubman Gill:

“Shubman Gill came here with good form… but if you look at his last three games, he hasn’t converted. There will be some pressure on him,” Chopra said, referencing Gill’s Asia Cup opportunity that went unfinished.

Abhishek Sharma continues his explosive intent, racing to 14 off just 4 balls with a six and a four, taking on Xavier Bartlett right away. Shubman Gill is on 4*(8) at the other end. India have started aggressively after surviving early drama, with Gill escaping a first-ball LBW scare and later undergoing a concussion check after a blow to the helmet.*

India vs Australia 2nd T20 Live Cricket Score, Melbourne: The stage is set at the MCG for the second T20I between Suryakumar Yadav-led India and Mitchell Marsh’s Australia, with the toss and playing XIs expected shortly. The first match in Canberra was washed out, keeping the five-match series level at 0-0 and leaving both sides eager to strike first today.

With the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka just months away, both teams will continue fine-tuning their combinations more than chasing the bilateral trophy. India hold a historical edge in T20Is, but Australia’s recently evolved aggressive approach makes this contest crucial for momentum.

For India, all eyes will be on Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, two batters capable of changing the game quickly. Australia’s key threats remain Travis Head, who has troubled India repeatedly, and Josh Hazlewood, who remains in top form with the ball.
