The BCCI on Friday officially confirmed that the Indian women’s cricket team will host Sri Lanka for a five-match T20I series later this month, stepping in as a replacement for the now-postponed Bangladesh tour. India were originally scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is away from home, but with that series deferred, the board moved quickly to fill the window and secure high-quality match practice.
The T20Is will be played between December 21 and 30, 2025, marking India’s first appearance in the shortest format since winning the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
Key venues confirmed
Two cities will host the entire series:
- Visakhapatnam – 1st & 2nd T20I
- Thiruvananthapuram – 3rd, 4th & 5th T20I
The ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag will stage matches on December 21 and 23, before the action shifts to the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram for games on December 26, 28 and 30.
Crucial preparation ahead of WPL 2026 & T20 World Cup
The series gives Harmanpreet Kaur’s team valuable match time right before the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, which begins in early January. This will also be India’s final international outing before players switch into franchise cricket mode.
Importantly, the matches also form a significant part of India’s build-up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.
After the WPL, India are expected to tour Australia in February–March for another away assignment.
