India’s curious run of bad luck at the toss continues. With Temba Bavuma opting to bowl first in the second ODI at Raipur, India have now lost the toss in 20 consecutive ODIs — an unprecedented streak in men’s international cricket.
This run began with the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad, where India lost the toss to Australia. Since then, every ODI across bilateral series and multi-team events has seen the Men in Blue end up on the wrong side of the coin.
The next longest streak in ODI history is held by the Netherlands, who lost 11 tosses in a row between March 2011 and August 2013. India have now nearly doubled that number, creating a record that stands far ahead of any other team.
The Men in Blue will hope the unusual pattern ends soon, but for now, the sequence extends to a remarkable — and unwanted — 20 matches in a row.
