Shubman Gill made his debut in the first T20 of the ongoing T20 series between India and Sri Lanka at the venerable Wankhede Stadium. India becomes only the second team, after Australia, to give 100th cap in the shortest format.
Mavi will be making his debut for India with Gill but Gill has already represented the country in Tests and ODIs. The two were called up after regulars Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma were not selected for the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Talking about the match, the visitors have won the toss and opted to bowl first, challenging Hardik-led team India to put a tough total with debutant Gill opening for team India, along with Wankhede’s favourite Ishan Kishan.
Both Gill and Mavi compete for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League; Mavi was bought for Rs. 6 crore in the mini-auction held in December 2022.
With a strike rate of 125.5 and an average of 32.2, Gill has amassed 1900 runs in the IPL. In 32 tournament games, Mavi has taken 30 wickets at an 8.71 economy rate.
Congratulations to @ShubmanGill & @ShivamMavi23 who are all set to make their T20I debut for #TeamIndia 🇮🇳👌
