IND vs SL 1st T20: Debutant Shivam Mavi bags his maiden wicket as Pathum Nissanka departs

Shubman Gill made his debut in the first T20 of the ongoing T20 series between India and Sri Lanka at the venerable Wankhede Stadium. India becomes only the second team, after Australia, to give 100th cap in the shortest format.

Mavi also made his debut for India with Gill but Gill has already represented the country in Tests and ODIs. The two were called up after regulars Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma were not selected for the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Unlike debut partner Shubman Gill, pacer Mavi didn’t disappoint the fans as he grabbed his debut wicket in his very first over of the second innings where the visitors are eyeing to chase a tough target of 163 runs.

Shivam Mavi gave team India their first wicket as Sri Lanka have a greater responsibility to chase the target of 163 runs.

Talking about Gill, Gill’s poor shot selection proved costly for India as it resulted in an early wicket and a poor start in the T20I format for the debutant. Gill was unfortunate to depart early on his debut, and fans had hoped for a strong partnership with Ishan Kishan.
