South Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock suffered a painful blow to his fingers during the early stages of the fifth T20I against India, prompting an injury scare for the Proteas.
The incident occurred when Lungi Ngidi bowled an off-pace delivery to Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek attempted to launch the ball straight down the ground but missed completely, with the ball bouncing awkwardly in front of de Kock and striking him on the fingers. The wicketkeeper was visibly in pain and immediately called for the physio.
De Kock had earlier taken another hit on the fingers on the very first ball of the match. Ngidi bowled a short-of-a-length delivery outside off to Sanju Samson, who went hard on the slash but was beaten by extra bounce. The ball swirled sharply and struck de Kock on the gloves, leaving him uncomfortable.
With two early impacts behind the stumps, wicketkeeping appeared challenging under the conditions, as the Proteas medical staff assessed de Kock’s condition on the field.
