Keshav Maharaj’s introduction has immediately created problems for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who survived two close chances in the 9th over as South Africa tightened the screws in Raipur.
On 8.1, Jaiswal attempted a risky reverse-sweep first ball and missed completely as the delivery spun sharply down leg.
Then on 8.2, he switched to a conventional sweep, fetching it from outside off and swinging hard. The ball hit the top of his bat and ballooned up, falling just short of the diving Corbin Bosch at backward square leg — another moment that had the Indian dressing room holding its breath.
Maharaj continued to beat Jaiswal in the flight and with drift, forcing him into defensive strokes for the rest of the over.
Despite the pressure, India remain steady at 61/1, with Jaiswal on 22 and Kohli on 12 as the two aim to rebuild after Rohit’s early wicket.
